Welcome to the April 25, 2007 edition of all things medical. Again there are plenty of submissions. And again I probably will not comment extensively. There are some submissions from old and trusted blogs (like from Deb Serani) as well as from some new sites. Check it yourself.
GrrlScientist presents Insect Cells Can Grow Influenza Vaccine posted at Living the Scientific Life, saying, "One of the biggest challenges to producing flu vaccine lies in the fact that so far, scientists have had to grow it in hens' eggs." Well, as far as I know viruses can be grown in the cell cultures (I did it myself with adenoviruses and retroviruses). Then let’s say you inactivate the bug with some formalin and mix with some adjuvant – and voila – the vaccine is ready (I mean that’s in theory). Even better – to grow just some transformed cells that produce just some proteins from viruses – core or envelope – whatever you need. Insect cells are also used for decades in cell cultures (to grow baculoviruses if I remember it right). At least I remember reading some detailed protocols how to do that and thinking if I can apply that to my scientific project. Yet, hmm, I did not know that the insect cells (or eggs for that matter) are so critical to the flu vaccine. Well, I know that I know nothing (as Pluto said long ago) biotechBarry Mahfood presents Making a Better Fit through Nanotech posted at The Price of Rice!. That's about implants. Interesting, though nothing unexpected diseaseAndrea presents Japanese Encephalitis posted at Travel Vaccinations. There are several types of encephalitis (not Just Japanese) caused by viruses and let you never get one. Too many complications (if you survive, of course ). healthDr. Todd Narson presents Dr. T’s Guidelines To Reduce High Cholesterol & High Triglycerides (and you’ll also lose weight too!!) posted at Natural Sports Medicine Blog, saying, "So now I can attest that by following my guidelines for lowering cholesterol and triglycerides, I have lowered both numbers signiicantly and are now well within the normal range. It works, but are you dedicated enough to your health to do it? They will work if you are willing to work at it too. Healthfully Yours, Dr. T" That's mostly well known old wisdom tips. Though, you may refresh the knowledge. Ybother presents Top 10 Signs of Cancer posted at TodaysTen.com: Daily Top Ten List to jumpstart your knowledge, saying, "An estimated 80 million people will comprise an age group of 65 years and older by the year 2050. Currently 60% of all cancers occur in persons over 65 years of age, and cancer in older people is becoming more common, with an estimated 80% in this population by 2050. Here are Top 10 signs for you to check on. Just in case." Well, I do not know if those are the top10, but true, those could be the cancer symptoms (as well as many others). Yet, these signs might be in other diseases as well. Yet, cancer alert will never hurt. Jamila Akil presents We Don't Need Universal Health Care Pt. I: Why Does The US Have Such A High Infant Mortality Rate ? posted at Jamila Akil. That's an old controversial topic. Phil B. presents To All Smokers and Non-Smokers « Phil for Humanity posted at Phil for Humanity, saying, "Help smokers quit smoking." Hmm, to short, though inspiring (for some). Ybother presents 10 Reasons to Switch to an Electric Toothbrush posted at TodaysTen.com: Daily Top Ten List to jumpstart your knowledge, saying, "Why you should switch over to an electric toothbrush? Because among other reasons, it just cleans better. This means white teeth, fresher breath and less visits to the dentist." Well, I am not sure if electric brush is better and cleans better. The Positivity Blog presents Here is a Quick Way to Better Breathing posted at Henrik Edberg. Might work for you. (Or might not). Andrea presents How To Reduce Your Risk of Diabetes posted at Travel Vaccinations. By decreasing body weight you will reduce the risk of type II diabetes, true. Yet, about type I - I doubt. Alex Shalman presents Nature’s Medicine posted at Alex Shalman . com - Practical Personal Development, saying, "Three natural cures that the pharmacy wouldn't want you to know about." Yeah, well, too bold statement. Garlic is known for millenniums . Old Greek saying: “eat twice a day garlic, thrice a day onion, you will be healthy as a bull.” Nothing new. I use and respect garlic. Against infection – very good remedy. Also to lower cholesterol. But why would pharmacy hide it? I think it is too bold statement – never say about. Pharmacy sells garlic extracts often. I would say they are indifferent. That’s not just a prescription drug. And severe infection probably could not be treated by garlic along. But for prophylaxis of different diseases the garlic is perfect. I really like it. About omega-3 fatty acids – also not a news. There are plenty of research about that. Oregano oil? Not sure what is this. Will check. Vahid Chaychi presents Does Sun Increase The Risk of Skin Cancer? posted at Healthoma.com. Yes it does – there were plenty of studies about that. Though majority of the skin cancers can be cured, yet melanoma – is the real threat. Vahid Chaychi presents Protect Yourself from Cervical Cancer posted at Healthoma.com. Look also HPV vaccine. GrrlScientist presents Genes Control Ability to Quit Smoking posted at Living the Scientific Life, saying, "Scientists at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) have identified genes that might increase a person's ability to quit smoking." Okay, good news. Though thousands of genes are already identified, and just few of them are employed. But, hey let’s wait the outcome of the biotech revolution – maybe in decade or two everything will speed up. Lorraine Roach presents Anxiety Group: A Note To A Fellow Sufferer posted at Coping With Anxiety, AnxietyEnded.com. Amy Pedersen presents Ergonomics, Office Chairs and the Real Definition of Ergonomic Workplace Posture posted at Sit On This Office Chair ...., saying, "The dictionary definition of ergonomics or human factors is the application of scientific information concerning humans to the design of objects, systems and environment for human use. When a manufacturer uses this process they take into account many factors which can affect the consumer. They use theory, data and principles in order to design a chair that limits all unnatural motions which will cause fatigue and pain." Look for the ergonomic furniture. Good prevention. David Richeson presents How to Keep Yourself Healthy posted at 360 Degree Success, saying, "Practical advice for keeping yourself healthy using preventative methods." There is one single most important relationship you need to work on, in order to ensure happiness in all of your other relationships." Jon Swift presents Is Abstinence-Only Sex Education Too Explicit? posted at Jon Swift, saying, "According to surprising new federal report, abstinence-only sex education classes have had "no impacts on rates of sexual abstinence." If these programs have in fact been a failure, I don't think it is because kids were being given too much inaccurate information. I think the real problem was that they were given any information at all." TherapyDoc presents Obesity Wars posted at Everyone needs therapy? Lessons from a family therapist, saying, "Another approach to weight loss, use the family, then consider that village." Then, why not? The same pattern of behavior persists through the whole life.

Wow, that's realy cool. How to convert the antigens and antibodies (washing them out?), using the cells that already do not divide. Especially the cells without nuclei, like RBC. Well, that should be a tricky invention. TherapyDoc presents When the Little Things Go Wrong posted at Everyone needs therapy?
